Tributes

Rob Ogden, age 61, passed away Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto following complications of open heart surgery. Born in San Diego to Joe and Caroyl Ogden, he grew up in Fresno where, as a child, he learned to play the accordion. He graduated from McLane High School in 1967. After earning a degree from Fresno State, Rob joined the Peace Corp in 1974. He spent a year in Ethiopia inoculating its residents against small pox. Returning to the States, Rob entered Arizona State University to attain his teaching credential. In 1980 he joined the Beyer High School family where he taught architectural drawing and history. He retired in June after a 29 year career. Besides being a voracious reader, Rob loved nature and in past years planted many trees on the Beyer High campus. In addition to his daily walks in his neighborhood where he would pick up litter and paint over graffiti, one of his favorite activities was skiing with his family in the winter. Upon his death, he became an organ donor and would be proud to know that he was able to extend the lives of three recipients. He was a new member of the CA Retired Teachers Assn., Modesto Teachers Assn., and the Sierra Club. Rob is survived by his wife of 19 years, Debbie Wallstrom Ogden and one son, Colin Ogden, both of Modesto. He leaves one brother, Tom (Heather) Ogden of Redmond, OR, and nephews and niece, Christopher, Ryan and Amy Ogden. He is additionally survived by his mother-in-law, Marilyn Wallstrom of Modesto, brother-in-law, Scott (Carol) Wallstrom of Truckee, and nieces, Simone, Monika and Hanna Wallstrom. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 12, at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. You are invited to a Celebration of Life at 1:30 p.m. the same day at Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave., Modesto.
