Vicente Cortez Gonzalez entered into heavenly rest on Sunday, March 10, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones at home. He was 84 years old. Vicente was born on February 28, 1940 in Janamuato, Michoacán to his parents Secundino and Carmen Cortez. His formative years were spent in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. During this time, he met the love of his life, Maria Cortez Carlos. The two were married on February 18, 1965 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Over the years, the two lived in Livingston, and Merced before settling down in Turlock, CA. He started his first job in the Central Valley at Foster Farms where he worked for four years. He worked as a machine operator for 26 years at Modine Western and another 10 years at Werner Company before retiring in 2011. When Vicente wasn’t working, he had many hobbies. He loved taking trips to the casino, fishing, and gardening. He enjoyed playing cards with his son, son-in-laws, and grandsons. He was a Eucharist Minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced, CA. Vicente shared the word of the Lord with farm laborers. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced and Turlock, CA. Vicente was a hardworking, loving, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He touched the lives of many. His love for God and others will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all. May he rest in heavenly peace. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, one brother, and two sisters. Vicente leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Maria Cortez Carlos; his children, Vicente (Maira Alejandra) Cortez Jr, Carmen (Jesus) Maravilla, Maria (Ildefonso) Nava, and Irma (Abelino Jr.) Ramirez; his siblings, Alfonso Cortez, Miguel Cortez, Daniel Cortez, Rosa Ortega, Carmen Cortez Mendoza, Josefina Cortez, and Trina Bartlett; his 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, followed by a recitation of the rosary at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, CA. Following the service, Vicente will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park. Please join the family for a reception following the burial service at The Grand Oak in Turlock, CA. This is an occasion to partake in lunch and share your memories of Vicente Cortez Gonzalez.
