Tributes

Charles passed away peacefully July 27, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to John Dover (J.D.) and Vera Myrtle Glenn on May 28, 1938 in Blythe, CA. He spent his early childhood years in Blythe and the family later moved to Delhi. He attended Delhi Elementary School and Livingston High School. He attended Merced Jr. College later in life. He joined the Navy in 1955 and served during the Korean War. After his enlistment was up, he returned home to Delhi, where he worked for his parents in their “Corner Store”. He began courting Florence Hotchkiss, and they were married on September 24, 1960, in Delhi, where they planted their roots and made their home. After his parents sold their store, he worked for Armour Meat Packing Company in Turlock. He left there to start Glenn’s Bee Service with his father, which they ran together until his father’s retirement. Charles retained the business for a few more years, then sold it. He then worked in various agriculture positions, hotel management, and then tended bar until his retirement. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Delhi. He was a former member of the Turlock VFW and the Turlock Moose Lodge. He enjoyed reading about history, especially military and Wild West history, and going to museums. He also liked to watch movies and documentaries on those subjects. He enjoyed traveling to visit out of area family. Charles was predeceased by his parents; his brother Dover Glenn, and two sisters, Bobbie Grimes and Mary Alice Tapley. He is survived by his wife, Florence and their four daughters and two sons-in-law; Susan and Daniel Foncello of Vista, CA, DeAnna and Tony Melo of Turlock, Carolyn Glenn of Atwater, and Charla Glenn of Delhi. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 2 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 3 at Turlock Memorial Park. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service at Delhi First Southern Baptist Church.
