Darryl Lynn Shaw, 81, of Manteca, California, passed away on July 21, 2023. Darryl was a consummate recreation director, always making sure that people were taken care of and having a great time. Darryl was born on March 16, 1942, in Torrance, California, to Barbara and Max Shaw. Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Margie Shaw, and their children, Tim (Allison) Shaw, Jennifer Shaw Maroney, Keith (Amanda) Kelley, seven grandchildren, brother Randy Shaw, and sister Lois Cohen. After graduating from Cal State Northridge in 1969 and moving to Sylmar, CA, Darryl began his career with the Los Angeles City Parks and Recreation Department. In 1980 he relocated his family to Lemoore, CA and began a 27 year career at Lemoore Naval Air Station, serving as a leader for both Morale, Welfare and Recreation, overseeing everything from pools to air shows, and for the Fleet and Family Support Center, helping enlisted personnel transition from military occupations to the private sector. Darryl always made the time to serve his community. He was a member of Rotary Club, a long term member of the Kiwanis Club, served on the Lemoore Elementary School Board and participated in countless ministries within Lemoore United Methodist Church. After retiring, Darryl and Margie continued their long tradition of taking their family camping by spending five years traveling around the United States in their fifth wheel often circling back to Green Valley, AZ in the winters. He continued his commitment to service on the road by volunteering with the RV Care-A-Vanners. In his later years, Darryl was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Manteca, where his faith and community involvement continued. Darryl's life is an inspiration for service to one’s community through volunteerism and good works. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5th, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 910 East North St, Manteca, CA 95336. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at 910 East North St, Manteca, CA 95336, or to The Alzheimer’s Association at PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
