John Souza Lemos Jr., beloved husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many, passed away at his home in Turlock on July 7, 2023, surrounded by family at the age of 67 after valiantly fighting cancer for almost 8 years. John was born in Santa Cruz, CA to John and Adeline Lemos. His family moved to Dos Palos for some years, but then relocated to Stevenson in 1962, which were his favorite childhood years. He loved fishing by the river and riding their family ponies. In 1974, he graduated from Turlock High School. He met the love of his life, Rosa, while in high school, but it wasn’t until 1988 that his persistence brought them back together. They were married on July 7, 1990. At the age of 16, after his father's passing, John took on the responsibility of helping run his family's dairy farm. He started working as an electrician in 1984 at Bright Electric with his brother, Frank Lemos. He continued this career, increasing his knowledge through experience and education, eventually becoming a journeyman electrician. His career path led him to CSU Stanislaus, where he retired in 2016. He was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife Rosa, daughter, Rachel Sutherland (Chris Sutherland) and his 3 grandchildren (Alyssa, Juliana, and Evan John Sutherland). He is also survived by his siblings: Linda Mann (Michael Mann), Nancy Lemos, Frank Lemos and uncle, Gilbert Santos. His mother-in-law, Maria Giron; sister-in-law, Mary Mayer; and brother-in-law, Jack Mayer. Along with his nephews and nieces: Michael Mann II, Jon Mann, Andrew Mann, Nathan Lemos, Alexandra VanBeber, Trevor Lemos, John Mayer, Jessica Bowman, Jenna Mayer, Cassidy Mayer, Alexander Giron, and Lucas Giron. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Adeline Lemos. John had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge of all sorts. John loved the great outdoors and going on adventures. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, fishing, golfing, mountain/desert/dirt bike riding, and going on any vacation. He would sleep under the stars, in a tent, on the beach, or at a resort spending time with his family and friends (especially his grandchildren)! Though his final years were marked by cancer, he never lost his smile or his determination. He was an inspiration to many; he endured countless rounds of treatment so he could live life to the fullest with his family and friends. He will be missed dearly, but his love is forever imprinted on the hearts of those with whom he shared his incredible life. His legacy will live through acts of kindness, selflessness and courage. Please join the family for a memorial service on Monday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the main chapel at Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
