Jose R. Vieira

Jose R. Vieira, of Hilmar, passed away peacefully at Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto on Sunday, May 31st. He went home to be with the Lord at the age of 84. Jose was born in Ponta Delgada, Flores, Acores on November 4, 1935. He married the love of his life, Maria Jose Dias Da Silveira on November 1, 1962 in Ponta Delgada. After immigrating to the United States, Jose settled down with his family in Hilmar. A hardworking and dedicated man, he worked as a Herdsman his entire life for numerous dairies, including Randy & Diane Peterson Dairy, Joe Egli Diary, Miguel Dairy, and Pete Mensonides Dairy. Work wasn’t work to Jose, because he took great pride in caring for the vacinhas (cows). In his spare time, Jose loved bbq’ing for his family, sharing his wine, spending holidays with his family, taking trips to Monterey and watching wrestling multiple times a week. A man of faith, Jose was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hilmar. He was preceded in death by his mother, Diolinda da Gloria Vieira and great-granddaughter, Kloheann Marie Vieira-Harding. Jose is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Maria Jose Dias Vieira; his sons, Joe Vieira and Jerry Vieira; daughter, Maria Vieira; sister, Maria (Joe) Rosa; grandsons, Derek Vieira, Kevin Vieira, Jacob Fontes and Cody Vieira; granddaughters, Ashlee Estrada, Kayley Fontes and Nicole Vieira; and his great-granddaughters, Adelyn Estrada, Kadence Vieira, Kinsley Vieira and Braelynn Vieira-Harding. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. The Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7th, followed by a funeral Mass on Monday, June 8th at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8471 Cypress St., Hilmar. Following the Mass, Jose will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park, 575 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. The Vieira family would like to thank all their family and friends, for their tremendous support during this difficult time.
