Juan P. Esquivel

Beloved Minister, Mentor and Friend to many, Juan P. Esquivel went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 16, 2019. Juan was born in Kingsville, Texas on July 27, 1938 to Jose and Josephina Esquivel. Juan enjoyed singing at an early age. He would frequently go to town with his brother and perform for others. Later, Juan took his singing talents to Chicago, where he sang for many years. After returning to Texas, he married Angelita B. Esquivel on September 2, 1962 in Kingsville. After moving to Illinois and starting a family, they moved to California and settled in Hilmar, raising their three children. Juan worked for Snider Lumber for 21 years and Varco Pruden for 15 years. Juan enjoyed helping and teaching others, weather it was coaching little league, helping as a Royal Rangers leader, or preaching in prisons and missions. Juan was always there with a lending hand and a quick joke. Pastor Paul Fliflet offered Juan the esteemed positon to take over the Portuguese services and he was the first to be recognized as the Portuguese First Assembly of God in the valley. Juan retired and moved to Okanogan, Washington, where he was once again a staple at the Friday night football games. Juan will be remembered for his devotion to God, his love for his family, and his quick wit and genuine smile. He is survived by his loving wife, Angelita; his brothers, Gilberto Esquivel of Riverside, CA, Neri Esquivel of LA and Raul Esquivel of Turlock, CA; two sisters, Lupe and Rosa from Kingsville, TX; children, Juan Esquivel Jr. of Modesto, CA, Estela Esquivel of Atwater, CA and Joe Esquivel Sr. of Modesto, CA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brett Esquivel of Seattle, WA, Marissa Esquivel of Modesto, CA, Devin Esquivel of San Diego, CA and Joe Esquivel Jr. of Modesto, CA, along with his great-grandson, Lucas Esquivel. He will be deeply missed by his family, friend, and all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. Interment will follow at Turlock Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following services at 3265 Calgary Ln., Atwater, CA 95301.
