Manuel Norbert Lima passed away on May 13, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on June 6, 1943 in Graciosa, Açores to Manuel Reis and Maria Conçeicão Lima. He married his beloved wife, Mary Emelia Lima, on June 26, 1971, in Hilmar, California, and together they raised two children, Maria Cecilia Lima-Johnson and Tomé Lima. Manuel was a proud grandfather to Ian, Liliana, and Jack Johnson, and Jacob Lima. Manuel worked in animal nutrition sales at Simon Newman Feed and Cargill Animal Nutrition, retiring in 2010. His early career included positions at Snider Lumber Warehouse and management at Souza's Furniture. A man of deep faith, Manuel was actively involved in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock, where he served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for the Portuguese Mass and was a dedicated Mass Usher. He served as past Vice President for Saint Vincent de Paul and served as President for Our Lady of Fatima Society in 2008 and 2016. His community involvement was extensive; he held leadership roles including Past President of Casa Dos Açores and the Portuguese Education Foundation of Central California. His commitment extended to the Turlock Pentecost Association where he served as director and secretary between 1982 and 2001. For the Knights of Columbus, Father Heslin Council #2557 he served in many capacities, including Grand Knight between 1976 and 1977, and member of the Third Degree Team. In the San Joaquin Chapter, he was the President between 1980 and 1981, the Columbian Retirement Home Coordinator between 1981 and 1984, District Deputy between 1999 and 2003, and as the New Council Development and Membership Chair between 2001 and 2004. Up until his passing, he remained active as the Hora Catolica Coordinator, starting in 1975. He was an active member of YMI, Hilmar and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Manuel's hobbies included almond tree farming and gardening. Manuel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary, his children and their spouses, Maria Cecilia Lima-Johnson (Jeff) and Tomé Lima (Christina); and his grandchildren, Ian Johnson, Liliana Johnson, Jack Johnson, and Jacob Lima. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Reis and Maria Conçeicão Lima. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Turlock Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Following the mass, Manuel will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, c/o Michael Sedgwick, 609 Young Court, Alamo, CA 94507. This charity held a special place in Manuel's heart, reflecting his lifelong commitment to his faith.
