Mary Hammons sadly left us unexpectedly on August 23, 2023 at the age of 79. She was born July 5, 1944. Mary rests in niche beside her mother, Frances Hammons 1923-1995, and nearby her father, Dewain Hammons 1924-2019, along with many other loved ones at Turlock Memorial Park. Before Mary’s calling, she was cared for in a loving and peaceful environment on behalf of Brenda’s Place located in Escalon, CA. Mary was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Her family moved to Turlock and settled within Stanislaus County. Mary graduated from Thomas Downey High in 1963 and attended school with the infamous George Lucas who graduated in 1962. In Mary’s teens, she worked alongside her mother, Frances Hammons, at the vintage Condatina food plant in Riverbank. Mary relocated to the Santa Clara County area and was employed by Syntex-Roche Pharmaceutical in Cupertino, CA. In 1989, Mary ventured to Las Vegas, NV in which she ultimately enjoyed and loved. She became employed by IGT Gaming providing the newer innovation – slot machines. Mary retired in 2008 and returned to her old roots in her home of Riverbank to be near her friends, June V., Kathy W., Toni D., Sandy B., Terri L., and her dearest friend and closest confidant, Janet F. Mary admired everything about the American Indians Spirituality, the Old West, spectacular Hollywood films and country music. Mary’s passion and sweet antics for dance were the jitterbug, swing, and funk which often reigned in conversational highs. Her all-time favorites from her childhood where Roy Rogers, the “King of Cowboys”, and icons Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Connie Francis, Neal Sedaka, and precious Dolly Parton. Along with her love of music and film, Mary was an avid traveler, making her way across the U.S. and one special, once-in-a-lifetime trip abroad to Italy/Sicily. Mary was always kindhearted and gave generously to all who knew her in her lifetime, including Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and to several American Indian communities. Mary is survived by her brother, Pete Hammons, Donnie Hammons, and her beloved sister, Shari Glenn Hurley (Shari-Pop). Mary, Rest easy on the wings of Eternity. Forever in our hearts, forever missed.
