Rick Trevino

Rick Trevino was a fun-loving, energetic life of the party kind of guy; he knew how to have fun! His laughter was boisterous and contagious. If you spent any time around him you were sure to have a good time. He played hard and worked hard he was committed and driven to his family and his work. Rick was employed at Metrolist for 32 years the former CEO of Metrolist stepping down due to his illness. Rick was married to the love of his life Mary Renteria-Trevino, they dated for 7 years and married 29 blissful years. He liked to reminisce on their dating years and how he predicted “that is the girl I am going to marry” after their first encounter. He appreciated her personality, sense of humor, and strength. Throughout their marriage you could find fresh flowers in their home because he knew she enjoyed them. He surprised her with a ring recently at her surprise birthday party. He had a romantic side to him which Mary loved. They had such a love for each other it was genuine and great to be around. Rick has two sons Andrew 18 and Vince 13; they have his quick wit. He was very involved with his boys; volunteering his time to Rugby, Umpired Baseball, and coached Soccer. He enjoyed playing all sports and games with the boys becoming very competitive. Whatever the boys were involved in Rick was there with them as a fan, providing support. He was a great role model always teaching and trying to prepare them for life. Rick was a graduate of California State University-Stanislaus with a Bachelor of Administration degree with a concentration in Business Computer Information Systems and Management. Rick was looking forward to seeing his boys graduate from college he was able to see them graduate high school and 8th grade with a mock graduation in the backyard. Rick was a family man and a father figure to many and for some the father they never had. He provided support, advice, encouragement, he was there when needed. His nieces and nephews expressed their gratitude letting him know the many ways he helped them. Rick was an inspiration; raised by a single mom Gilberta Garcia from their humble beginnings to becoming Vice President and CEO; quite an accomplishment. Rick was preceded in death by his mom Gilberta Garcia and two brothers Reyes Gonzalez and Santos Trevino. He was close to his mom and brothers and missed them very much. He leaves behind five siblings: Thomas Juan Martinez of Texas, Bob Cardoza of Riverbank, Jess Cardoza of Tracy, Ramona Martinez of Modesto, and Mary Canedo of Patterson. Rick enjoyed life he climbed half-dome, ran marathons, and inspired others to run. He enjoyed RV’ing to Yellowstone, Bodega Bay, Oregon, Dallas or wherever the road would take him. He was a big fan of America’s Team Dallas Cowboys and followed them in the playoffs from state to state. He enjoyed camping at Pinecrest with family and friends. He was adventurous, taking groups white water rafting even while sick. Rick enjoyed taking the family out boating and laughing at the mishaps; when it would only go in reverse. Rick traveled extensively throughout Europe, Polynesia, Mexico, Caribbean, Alaska, and Fiji to name a few. He was continuously self-improving as a member of Toastmasters and most recently he was learning woodworking; made himself a step stool with the help of Vince. He was especially proud of his Ultra Marathon and his electrical work: he was ready to learn then teach Andrew all he could. His life was cut short, he was 56 years old, born 8/27/66 and passed away 5/5/23, at home surrounded by family and friends. It was a beautiful send off. We were grateful to have him in our lives and very proud of the way he lived and died with such courage. We will miss his hugs, laughter, and love. Indeed, Rick will be remembered for his love of life, grit, spontaneity, his drive, kind hearted and adventurous spirit. Rick lived a fulfilled life, touched many and left us with many great memories. In his words “I lived a good life I could not ask for more; only time.
