Robert Comer

Robert (Buzz) Comer, one of Columbia’s local loggers has gone to heaven. He passed on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at the age of 81. He was born in Columbia, CA on June 6, 1941. He spent his early years in Columbia, where he graduated from high school in 1959. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army and served two years. After his completion of service in 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Donna Gibson, the mother of his children, Patty, Lorrie, and Bobby. After his marriage to Donna ended, Buzz met and married the love of his life, Pamela Jean Comer, becoming a stepfather to her two children, Donna and Tim. Over the years, he thoroughly enjoyed working as a logger with his logging family. When Pamela was shot in July of 1989, he took very good care of her. Then he taught her to drive trucks, so they could log together. 25 years ago the two decided to move to Brenda, AZ where he worked for ADOT, as a bus driver for the local school, and as a gravel delivery driver. He was loved by all. Due to back and heart issues, he was forced into retirement. During retirement, he enjoyed getting on his ham radio, driving hot rods, and going to hot rod shows where he won 11 trophies for his 1969 Corvette. In 2020, it was discovered that he had three crushed vertebrae, which he underwent surgery for that left him unable to walk. At this time, Pam began caring for him. In 2022, caring for Robert became too much for Pamela on her own, so she reached out to her son Tim who stepped up and moved his dad to live with him in CA. Shortly thereafter, their property in AZ was sold, so their son moved Pam to CA to reside with him as well. Robert passed away peacefully at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson, CA under the care of Community Hospice Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patty; his brothers, Ken and Doug. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Comer; his children, Lorrie Jones, Robert Comer, Donna Shimer, and Tim Light; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
