After living life to its fullest and on his terms, Bob, age 93, passed peacefully in his sleep on November 23rd, following complications from a fall. He was born in Turlock on June 6, 1923, to Royal and Edla Johnson. Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Wayne, Wally and Weldon. The Johnson boys all attended Johnson Joint Elementary and Turlock High School. Bob gave each teacher a "run for their money". A World War II Navy veteran of nearly six years, Bob served his country with pride and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Following his service to country, he married the love of his life and best friend, Carmen Johnson, who preceded him in death. They were married in Beaulah Covenant Church and were lifelong members. Together they had many exciting adventures including trailer camping in state parks, motorcycling across the United States, and making monthly memories with their motor home group following his retirement from International Paper Company. Wherever he traveled, golf was an important part of his life as well as the friends he made while a member of Turlock Golf and Country Club. A devoted husband to Carmen and loving father to Camille Adams (Doug), he always placed his family close to his heart. He looked forward to being reunited with Carmen and drew strength and peace from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dearly missing him are his precious granddaughters, Heather Green (Danny) and Dr. Hillary Greer (Michael). His great grandsons were such a blessing to him and he lovingly asked them to call him "Bob". His passion was riding and racing motorcycles or working on projects for his family and he spent hours devoted to being creative and doing it "his way". Great grandsons Hilton, Houston and Heston Green benefited from his talents and he was always willing to share tips with them along the way. Bob looked forward to the camaraderie he had at Latif's for breakfast with his buddies each week. Many tall tales were shared as well as teasing that seemed to have a life of its own. Each and every man had a special place in his heart. What a joy he experienced with those dear friends each week! He also relished teasing the waitresses at Latif's, Perko's, and AJ's. In his long life, he never met a stranger and was a helping hand to so many others besides his family. A visitation is planned at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock, on Tues., Dec. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. At his request, burial will be private.
