Tributes

Alfred Baptista was born on October 12th 1918 in Hughson, California. When he was six months old his parents, John and Ana Baptista, moved the family approximately mile to 4855 Aldrich rd. where Alfred spent nearly all of his remaining years, dying there on Sunday, February 21st surrounded by many family members. Alfred is survived by four daughters: Patti Baptista, Cynthia Baptista, Stephanie (Bill) Mills, and Gurli (Marla), (Randy) Dickson. He is also survived by two brothers Albert and Raymond Baptista, as well as four sisters: Florence Rose Avelar, Marie Vierra, Mabel Teicheira, and Margaret (Maggie) Oliveira. He also leaves two granddaughters, Tiffany (Randy) Christian, and Tara Baptista, as well as one great-grand son, Carter Christian. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Baptista. He also had four brothers who preceded him in death: Charlie, George, David, and Roy Baptista. Like many of his generation, Alfred left school at an early age to work on the family farm. He remained a farmer the rest of his life. For 50 years he operated the A&A Dairy with his brother Albert. He and his brothers also operated a commercial harvesting business, Baptista Brothers. For 50 years they harvested dry beans from Ripon to Firebaugh. Many other relatives and friends also worked alongside the brothers and they continue to be fondly remembered by many in the farming community. Alfred enjoyed going out to breakfast most mornings with his brothers and nephews. He also had lunch with the same brothers as well as several sisters at various restaurants in Turlock. Alfred spent most days close to family members either at work or eating together. In later years he also enjoyed going to cardiac rehab in Modesto, where he made many new friends. In 2008 Alfred and his remaining brothers, Albert and Raymond, were honored by the Hughson Chamber of Commerce and the Hughson Historical Society as long time members of the community. He was also a member of the Blue Diamond Almond Growers Association and the SES Portuguese Society., Alfred had a long, and for the most part healthy life. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members. Soderquist Rd. in Turlock. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 also at Turlock Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Flowers Mausoleum at Turlock Memorial Park.
