Audrey Mae Grover

Audrey Mae Grover was born on April 20, 1929 to Clarence and Mabel Johnson in Turlock, CA. They lived in Turlock for a few years where Audrey started school. They then moved to Modesto where she graduated from Modesto High School in 1947, and entered Modesto Junior College, where she met the love of her life, Calvin Grover. Their love and life together spanned over 60 years. For sure, a life of true devotion to each other. They were married in Modesto on July 8, 1950, where they began building their first and only house on Trinity Avenue. It became a race to see if their new baby would arrive or the house be completed first. The house was the winner, and Janet was born September 10, 1953. Cal and Audrey’s family was complete when Steven was born on August 22, 1960 Audrey loved her family very much and they were very important to her. She was at her best when she was hosting and participating in family activities. She cooked special meals on every family members birthday, and they were always special – straight from her heart. Audrey and Cal were both blessed with very active bodies and very loving hearts. They were active members in Centenary United Methodist Church, where Audrey was active in the womens’ groups; the Sylvan Improvement Club, where they worked on the club fund raisers; they were active members in the S.O.S. club, and Community Hospice, where Audrey volunteered by working In the office for years. Over the years, Audrey was also very active in the Enslen School PTA, and she also worked at Bordens Creamery and Nasco West. Audrey was friendly and easy to talk to, and she never was hesitant to share her gift of love, acceptance and kindness with others. She moved into Valley Comfort assisted Living Facility during her last few years, and she never lacked for visitors in her room. Her many friends were constant visitors, as were many of the people working there. They would often spend their breaks and lunch-times talking with her and gaining perspective on their lives. She was open and honest with them, and offered great insight to them, and so enjoyed having them around. Audrey passed into eternity on March 16, 2017. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Cal, and her parents. She is survived by her children, Janet (Stan) Skooglund, Steven (Jennifer) Grover, grandson Tyler (Jules) Grover and great-granddaughter Riley. Her family would like to thank the operators and employees at Valley Comfort for their loving care and support. She truly loved living there. A Celebration of Life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church on Thurs., Mar. 23 at 10am.
