Ben Judd

Ben Judd June 29, 1932 - July 22, 2013 After a long illness, Ben Judd passed away on Monday July 22nd. Born in Oklahoma in 1932, he and his family moved to California after World War II. After attending Modesto High School, Mr. Judd went to work for San Joaquin Turkey Growers Assn. In 1954 Mr. Judd met and later married his wife the former Betty Foshee. Soon afterward his son Dennis was born and three years later came his daughter Denise. He continued working in the turkey industry in Modesto after his company was bought out by Louis Rich Foods and there he rose to the position of Plant Manager. Mr. Judd then took on the same position at Valchris Turkey Products in Turlock working to grow the further processing division. In the 1980’s Mr. Judd was blessed with two grandchildren, Kristin and Daniel. He also became a consultant in the turkey industry, traveling around the country troubleshooting processing plants. Having had his fill of travel, Mr. Judd took on a completely different position as an engineer for the city of San Francisco. It was as an engineer that Mr. Judd finally retired in 1994. Mr. Judd was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He took on leadership positions including president of the local houndsman club. He was also a tournament horseshoe pitcher. As a member of the local Horseshoe club, he also spearheaded improvements at local parks such as Enslen Park in Modesto and Smyrna Park in Ceres. Mr. Judd is survived by his wife of 58 years Betty of Ceres, where they made their home. He is also survived by his son Dennis and his spouse Kim of Puyallup Washington. And his daughter Denise and her spouse Cheryl of Ceres. Mr. Judd also is survived by his two grandchildren, Kristin and Daniel along with his spouse Amanda. He is also survived by one great-grand daughter Evelyn, all from Washington State. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of English Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Community Hospice. Visitation will be held Friday, July 26 from 3-7 PM at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. Funeral Service will held Saturday, July 27 at 10:30 AM also at Turlock Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Turlock Memorial Park.
