Marlene passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Marlene was born in Duluth, MN, to Edwin and Clara Anderson. She was the third of four children. Marlene's father was in poor health, and it was recommended the family should move to a warmer climate. Her parents visited friends in California and stayed. Meanwhile, Marlene finished her school year in MN and then traveled alone by train at 12 years old to join the rest of her family. She graduated from Turlock High School, Class of '51, where she then attended Junior College and was employed at T.I.D. Marlene met her husband, Lyman "Al" Sanders, they were married for 61 years and raised five children. Marlene was a wonderful cook and very involved in all her children's activities, as well as keeping the books for their family dairy. Al and Marlene instilled in their children, faith in God, honor, helpfulness as well as a strong work ethic. Marlene will be missed for her extensive memory and stories she shared and a wonderful sense of humor. While attending First Baptist in high school, she formed a strong bond with her youth group and reconnected years later. The ladies would meet monthly for 35 years and were affectionately known as "The Lunch Bunch". She was a pink lady at Emanuel Hospital Gift shop for 27 years, as well as a member of California Women for Agriculture and American Agri-Women. She is survived by her children Melanie (Eric) Smith, Scott (Sharalee) Sanders, Shawn (Debbie) Sanders, Nanette (Scott) Burch and Cathy Sanders. Her grandchildren, Natalie Sanders, Rebecca (Ethan) Mayfield, Nicole (Kevin) Osborn, Hannah, Noah, Joshua, Leah and Adah Sanders, and Ryan Burch. Her great grandchildren, Ames, and Aliza Mayfield. As well as her brother, Arden (Marilyn) Anderson and many nieces, nephews, and friends. We all rest in the knowledge that Papa Al, was waiting patiently for "Gma" to arrive and we will see them again. The family would like to thank the wonderful care Marlene received over the last few months from Covenant Home Services. A private Interment will be held, and a Celebration of Life will be held at Mitchell Community Church, 1507 Mitchell Road, Turlock on Saturday, April 29th from 2-6 pm.
