Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and a great-grandfather was born January 28, 1930 and recently passed away at 90 years old on October 02, 2020. Rafael Romo Cornejo left behind his wife, Tomasa Romo and 9 children: Felipe de Jesus Romo, Maria Guadalupe Preciado, Juan Manuel Romo, Maria del Carmen Montoya, Jose Asuncion Romo, Jose Antonio Romo, Ana Luz Romo, Maria de la Asuncion Gonzalez y Rafael Romo. As Rafael’s family grew, he enjoyed spending time with his 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his parents and siblings, as well as his 3 children, Jose Maria, Raul and Martin Romo. Rafael was born in Jalostotitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. He came to the United States in 1970 to give his family a better future. Rafael was known as the proudest father, grandfather and, as he liked to say, “biskabuelo” to his great-grandchildren. Rafael enjoyed making carnitas, having family barbecues, watching the news and baseball games, playing a good game of dominos, taking naps, telling stories of his past and always being the jokester of the family. Everyone could count on Rafael for a good laugh. Rafael was a huge family man. He enjoyed attending Mass with his wife and kids. He enjoyed traveling, whether for fun or visiting relatives. Some of his favorite things to do included going to casinos and fishing. Rafael enjoyed playing a game of pool with his friends. He also enjoyed a good meal, whether eating in, taking out or dining in. He would never say no to some good food. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Rafael enjoyed nature and animals and always taught his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the love and patience it took in taking care of plants and animals. He would randomly give his grandchildren pets (chickens, rabbits, birds etc.). He and his wife shared a passion in taking care of their birds. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd., Turlock. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 3824 Mitchell Rd., Ceres. Following the Mass, Rafael will be laid to rest at Turlock Memorial Park.
