Shiu Ram "Bhaddar"

Shiu Ram, "Bhaddar" passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Doctors in Modesto, CA at the age of 79. He was born on March 8, 1937 in Suva, Fiji Islands. He was the youngest of 2 sons of the late Ram Udit "Shotka" and Ram Kuwar of Nasinu 9 miles. He leaves behind many friends and relatives in Fiji Islands, Canada, New Zealand and Australia including sons; Dharam Raj, Shiu Raj, Deo Raj, Ritu Raj and daughter Norma Ram. Total of 12 grandkids, including 5 boys Ranesh, Pranesh, Hem Jr., Ritu Jr., Noah and 7 girls Roshni, Jasmine, Shanell, Shiwani, Maya, Briani and Krishma and 3 great grandkids. He is preceded in death by his older brother Shiu Prasad, his wife Aneg Wati Ram, eldest son Hem Raj, and eldest grandson Shiu Raj Jr. He was well known in Fiji for his famous pineapple plantation business. Officials from the Fiji Agricultural dept., including several governors, toured his farm on a regular basis. His plantation was a desired tourist destination which thousands around the world have visited and admired. In search for a better life for his children, in 1977 he immigrated his family to the USA with help from his brother and sister-in-law Shiu and Karen Prasad. The family established residence at 3121 Nightingale drive in Modesto, CA. He brought his love and expertise in gardening and farming with him and started one of the first backyard vegetable gardens. His fresh vegetables were highly desired year round among the local community. He was also well known for his fresh homemade mixture of "Masala." He loved spending time with his family and friends and was instrumental in establishing the first Mandir in Modesto. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Hughson Gurdwara and socializing with a bowl of Kava Kava. He was married for 42 years, and after the passing of his wife, he lived with his youngest son Ritu Raj in Ceres and Turlock for the past 15 years. He touched many lives and was loved by everyone. He will be missed by his family and friends and his legacy unforgotten. Funeral services will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Sunday January 22, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (425 North Soderquist Rd., Turlock, CA 95380)
